IAT 2026 Registration: The 3 Document Mistakes That Can Ruin Your IISER Dream
With less than 2 days to go before the IAT 2026 registration portal officially opens on March 5th, the excitement (and nerves) are real! You’ve likely spent months grinding through mock tests, revising NCERTs, and solving PYQs.
To ensure you don’t fall into that trap, we’ve put together the “IAT 2026 Document Protocol.” If you don’t have these three things sorted, don’t hit that “Apply” button just yet!
1. The “April 1st” Category Certificate Trap
This is the most critical point for OBC-NCL and EWS candidates.
The Dilemma: “If the portal opens on March 5th, but I need a certificate dated after April 1st, what do I do?”
The Solution:
- Apply on March 5th: Do not wait until April to register.
- Use the Declaration Form: Download the official “Declaration Form” from the IISER Admission portal. This form acts as a temporary placeholder where you promise to provide the updated certificate later.
- The Deadline: On April 1st, 2026, immediately apply for your new OBC-NCL or EWS certificate.
2. Photo & Signature: Avoid the “Auto-Reject”
The IAT portal uses an automated scanning system. If your uploads don’t meet the technical specs, the software might flag or reject your form.
| Feature | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Photo Background | Plain White (Avoid colored or busy backgrounds) |
| Recency | Must be a latest photo (Don’t use your 10th-grade photo!) |
| Visibility | Both ears must be visible; no caps or mufflers. |
| Spectacles | Allowed, but ensure there is no glare/reflection on the lenses. |
| Signature Ink | Black Ink Only on plain white paper. (Blue ink often fades in scans). |
| File Size | Generally between 80KB to 200KB (Check the portal for final limits). |
3. The “Name Match” Rule (Aadhaar vs. 10th Marksheet)
Discrepancies in your name are a nightmare during exam center verification. Your 10th Standard Marksheet is the “Gold Standard” for your name and Date of Birth (DOB).
- Check your Aadhaar: Does the spelling match your 10th marksheet exactly?
- The Initial Problem: If your marksheet says “Arjun K.P.” but your Aadhaar says “K.P. Arjun,” you might face issues during biometric verification at the center.
- Action Plan: If there is a mistake in your ID proof, go to an Akshaya Centre or Aadhaar enrollment center today to get it corrected.
Beyond IISERs: Where Else Can IAT Take You?
- IISc Bangalore
- IIT Madras (for specific courses)
- IIT Guwahati
- IACS Kolkata
- IIEST Shibpur
Note: While you use the IAT score, some of these institutes require you to apply through their separate portals. Stay tuned to our community for step-by-step guides on these external applications.
